It is our goal to support you throughout your pregnancy and to provide a safe and healthy birth experience for you, your baby and your family.
The following classes are recommended for you as you plan for your new baby. Classes are held routinely in the classroom of the Cumberland Memorial Hospital. Please call 715-822-6284 for current schedule, price, and registration information.
CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION
Learn and practice various stress reducing relaxation techniques including massage, visualization, and breathing. You will also learn about the normal progression of labor and delivery as well as variations. Comfort options will be discussed and practiced. Insight into infant care, including normal newborn development and infant safety will be covered. Four sessions, Tuesday evenings.
SIBLING CLASS
This class, for children 2-10, helps them prepare for their new place in the family. Children learn how they can care and comfort the new baby, as well as how they can help mom and dad. They will have an opportunity to practice diapering and swaddling a doll and also take a tour of The BirthPlace. Parents will be provided with information to ease the adjustment for their child. One session held every other month.
BREASTFEEDING BASICS
Learn how to make the first days/weeks of breastfeeding go smoothly. You will learn how to position and latch correctly to prevent soreness and techniques to ensure a good milk supply. Benefits for mom, baby, and whole family will be discussed. Family members will learn how to help the new mom in the first weeks. One session every other month, Tuesday evening.
LACTATION CONSULTANT
After delivery breastfeeding assistance is available, both while you are here and after you leave the hospital. Just ask your nurse or call the BirthPlace at 715-822-6110.
HOME VISIT
Each family is offered a home visit shortly after discharge. An OB RN will come to your home to weigh the baby, check your vital signs and answer any questions you may have now that you are home with the new baby.
YOUR LABOR SUITE
Our spacious LDRP suites were designed with your safety and comfort in mind. Complete with a whirlpool tub for your relaxing pleasure, each suite has beautiful home-like decor. During labor medical equipment is close at hand, then after delivery it is removed, leaving you with plenty of room for your family and visitors
It is recommended that you have a support person with you during labor. A cot will be provided for your support person to be at your side during your entire stay if you choose.
SHORT STAY PROGRAM
This program is offered free of charge to all women who will be delivering at The BirthPlace. You will meet with an OB Registered Nurse once during each trimester of your pregnancy to discuss your individual needs. Together you will design a birth plan tailored to your individual wishes, and begin learning what educational needs you may have after the baby comes.
SAFETY
Your baby's safety and security is very important to us. Our nursery is equipped with an alarm, which will sound if any unauthorized person enters the nursery.
VISITING HOURS
Visiting hours are 12:30 to 8:30. Family is welcome anytime.
