Cumberland Extended Care Unit Achieves Medicare Certification
Cumberland Extended Care Unit achieves Medicare Certification.
The Cumberland Extended Care Unit has been approved to participate as a skilled nursing facility in the Medicare program. As a result of this certification, individuals with Medicare benefits may be able to use them to cover nursing home services if needed.
To be eligible for Medicare coverage, an individual must have been a patient in a hospital for at least 3 days in the past 30 days. In addition, rehabilitation services such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy must be needed 5 days per week. Individuals who need skilled nursing services daily may also qualify.
Medicare will cover 100% of the nursing home stay for 20 days. Partial coverage may continue up to 10 days if the individual continues to need the services listed above. The individual is responsible for a copay amount. This copay may be covered by supplemental nursing home insurance as well.
Becoming Medicare certified in the Extended Care Unit increases the long term care services we are able to offer our community.
For additional information on the Extended Care Unit services or regarding Medicare coverage, contact Tracy Pederson at 822-6113.
