| The Anesthesia Department at Cumberland Memorial Hospital is staffed with two Board Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA's), each with over 20 years of anesthesia experience. The department provides anesthesia care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for scheduled and emergency procedures.
The anesthetists are also available to both nurses and physicians for emergency airway management and difficult intravenous access. As members of the trauma code team, they also provide these skills in the emergency room setting.
The two anesthetists provide anesthesia for the following surgical specialties: general, thoracic, orthopedic, ophthalmology, urology, podiatry, hand, plastic reconstructive, obstetrical, gynecology, ENT and endoscopy.
The Anesthesia Department offers several anesthetic choices including general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, sedation and local anesthesia and specific nerve block anesthesia. The choice of anesthesia is a collaborative decision involving the surgeon, anesthetist, primary care physician and the patient. An individual anesthesia care plan is developed for each patient, with an emphasis on patient comfort and safety.
Patients who have been scheduled for a surgical procedure at Cumberland Memorial Hospital will meet the anesthetist before surgery to discuss and answer any questions they may have about the anesthesia.People who are considering elective surgery, and have questions about anesthesia or would like to speak with one of the anesthetists, are encouraged to call the Cumberland Memorial Hospital Surgical Department at 715-822-2741.
