| The Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit (NorthWest Regional Center) opened in 1976. Currently the Behavioral Health Unit is a secure unit with ten beds for adults 18 years of age and older. We provide complete psychiatric, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, and psychological services to patients who have behavioral health issues along with alcohol and drug abuse struggles.
Staff on the unit includes one psychiatrist, certified psychiatric RN’s, occupational therapists, a social worker and a psychologist. The family practice physicians from the Cumberland Clinic provide medical evaluations and medical services. Additional services include the full diagnostic and treatment resources of the hospital.
Admission to the unit is on a voluntary basis or through various legal means initiated by a county. Currently we serve thirteen different counties. Treatment of patients is non-discriminatory and all staff take a professional and empathetic approach to patient care.
The admission and treatment process includes:
- Admission orders by the psychiatrist
- Evaluations completed by nursing and occupational therapy
- The medical physician completes a history and physical
- A psychosocial history is completed by the social worker
- Alcohol and drug abuse evaluations are done on an as needed basis
- The information from the assessment and evaluation is reviewed with all staff providing care and an individualized treatment plan is developed
- All treatment plans are reviewed with the patient
- The patient will be involved in individual counseling and group sessions.
Behavioral health services may address coping with major stressors, anxiety, and the symptoms associated with mood and thought regulation. We can also help those suffering with drug and alcohol abuse, which may be the result of other behavioral health needs.
Our goal is to help the patient return to the highest possible level of independent and productive living as soon as possible.
