Occupational Therapy

OT - Ashely & Paula

Our occupational therapists and assistants work with adults and pediatrics to help people develop the “skills for the job of living” necessary for living independent and satisfying lives. At Cumberland Healthcare, our team of dedicated occupational therapists is committed to helping clients overcome challenges, improve independence, and enhance their quality of life.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is a client-centered health profession that helps people of all ages achieve their goals by enabling them to participate in meaningful daily activities (occupations). These activities may include self-care tasks, work, leisure, and social interactions. Our occupational therapists collaborate closely with clients to develop individualized treatment plans that address specific challenges and goals.

Our Occupational Therapy Services Include:

Our Occupational Therapists help people with conditions such as:

  • Pediatric
  • Hand and wrist injuries, surgeries, and repetitive stress
  • Limitations following a stroke or heart attack
  •
Arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and other serious chronic conditions
  • Birth injuries, learning problems, and developmental disabilities
  • Mental health or behavioral problems, including Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, and post-traumatic stress
  • Burns, spinal cord injuries and amputations
  • Broken bones or other injuries from falls, sports injuries, and accidents
  • Help with basic testing and some rehab of vision and cognitive problems that threaten the ability to drive (but don’t provide services to determine if a person can keep their license).
  • Work-related injuries, including repetitive stress injuries

For your convenience, Cumberland Healthcare provides home evaluations conducted by our occupational therapy staff. They work closely with physicians, other therapists, nursing staff, and discharge planners to ensure independence and safety upon discharge from the hospital. One of our occupational therapists will come to your home to assess the environment and recommend the necessary family and personal support, physical adaptations, adaptive equipment, and community support services required to allow you to meet the challenges of independent living.
