Welcome to our dedicated lymphedema therapy page, where we offer specialized treatments to alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life for individuals suffering from lymphatic disorders. Cumberland Healthcare is committed to providing compassionate care and effective therapies tailored to each patient’s needs.
Understanding Lymphedema
Lymphedema is a chronic condition characterized by swelling (edema) caused by a compromised lymphatic system. It commonly occurs in the arms or legs but can also affect other parts of the body. This condition often develops following surgery, radiation therapy, or other trauma that damages the lymph nodes or lymphatic vessels.
Our Approach to Treatment
At Cumberland Healthcare, we utilize evidence-based practices to manage and treat lymphedema effectively. Our certified lymphedema therapists are trained in techniques such as:
-
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): Gentle massage techniques that encourage the natural drainage of lymphatic fluid from the affected area.
-
Compression Therapy: Using specialized bandages or garments reduces swelling and improves lymphatic flow.
-
Exercise and Movement: Customized exercises to promote lymphatic circulation and maintain flexibility.
-
Skin Care: Education on proper skin care to prevent infections and complications associated with lymphedema.
