Cumberland Healthcare Announces New Campus Kickoff!
In 2017 Cumberland Healthcare acquired 65 acres of land near the Cumberland Golf Course for a replacement campus. This land purchase was annexed into the city in 2018 and financing has been secured through the USDA with involvement from local banks.
Cumberland Healthcare is kicking off the design of its replacement facility with Wendel, a nationally recognized Architectural, Engineering, Energy Efficiency and Construction Management firm. The proposed campus will replace the current facility which is 60 years old. Schematic design kicked off November of this year and will continue through January 2019. Full design phases will follow, with groundbreaking scheduled to take place this May. This one of a kind facility will be complete in mid-2021.
The project is programmed at nearly 100,000 square feet for both the hospital and ambulatory care facilities. The site was specifically selected to include planned space for future long-term care facilities as well as elderly residential development. Construction and all other related project costs are expected to total near $40M.
“We are very excited and proud to announce our new healthcare campus kickoff and how we will deliver future health care to you.” Says Mike Gutsch, CEO, “This is an exciting time for our providers, governing board, and staff as it will have a positive impact on the communities in which we serve.”
“Cumberland Healthcare Campus will be a model for LEAN design strategies specific to critical access hospitals in a rural setting.” Says David Kimball, AIA CCS CDT, Principal Architect, “The design will focus on spatial efficiencies that maximize utilization by concentrating on flow, materials, and equipment.”
